{"id":5,"date":"2013-03-05T04:20:42","date_gmt":"2013-03-05T04:20:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cdnregdev.ruralresilience.ca\/?page_id=5"},"modified":"2019-06-19T09:08:27","modified_gmt":"2019-06-19T09:08:27","slug":"project-description","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/cdnregdev.ruralresilience.ca\/?page_id=5","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0<em>Canadian Regional Development: A Critical Review of Theory, Practice, and Potentials<\/em>\u00a0project was a multi-year research initiative funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. The project investigated how Canadian regional development has evolved over the past two decades and the degree to which Canadian regional development systems have incorporated New Regionalism into their policy and practice.<\/p>\n<p>The project conducted an empirical assessment of Canadian regional development using a multi-level network, mixed methods\u00a0<a title=\"Case\u00a0Studies\" href=\"http:\/\/cdnregdev.ruralresilience.ca\/?page_id=8\">case study<\/a>\u00a0approach in four provinces: British Columbia, Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario, and Qu\u00e9bec. The assessment of regional development across the case studies was based on the five key themes of New Regionalism: i) collaborative, multi-level governance; ii) integrated versus sectoral and single objective approaches; iii) fostering knowledge flow, learning and innovation; iv) place-based development; and v) rural-urban interaction and interdependence. The research team includes David Douglas\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uoguelph.ca\/sedrd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(School of Environment Design and Rural Development, University of Guelph<\/a>), Sean Markey (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfu.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Simon Fraser University)<\/a>, Bill Reimer (<a href=\"http:\/\/socianth.concordia.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sociology and Anthropology, Concordia University<\/a>), Heather Hall (<a href=\"https:\/\/uwaterloo.ca\/school-environment-enterprise-development\/people-profiles\/heather-m-hall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">School of Environment, Enterprise, and Development, University of Waterloo<\/a>), and Ryan Gibson (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uoguelph.ca\/sedrd\/people\/ryan-gibson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">School of Environmental Design and Rural Development, University of Guelph<\/a>).
